Mechanical Engineer

Infinite Cooling’s mission is to mitigate water scarcity around the world. We help power plants and other industrial plants reduce their water consumption and water treatment costs by recovering water from their cooling tower exhaust. We have a patent-pending technology developed at MIT that uses electric fields to capture water from the plumes leaving cooling towers. We are a vibrant startup based in Somerville, Massachusetts, and we are on a mission to be a global leader in the water services industry for industrial applications. Infinite Cooling is venture-backed and has won the MIT $100K, MassChallenge, the DOE national Cleantech competition, an NSF SBIR, and numerous other awards.

We are looking for a sharp, tenacious and creative Mechanical Engineer to join our team and work on all product development stages from R&D to design, prototype, and test through to manufacturing and installation. Strong communication, flexibility, and the desire to “wear many hats” will all be essential skills for a successful applicant.

What you will do:

  • Design, build, test, and analyze mechanical prototypes
  • Define requirements, spec parts, and participate in design reviews
  • Design pneumatic, structural, fluidic, and/or electrostatic systems
  • Improve manufacturing processes and develop field installation plans
  • Design and execute efficient qualification test plans
  • Make lab improvements with a mind for safety

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3-8 years of mechanical design experience required; industrial product design is preferred
  • Strong background in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and/or materials
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, GD&T, FEA, and PDM
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturing processes such as extrusions, cabling, machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, spooling, injection molding, and composites
  • Prototyping experience: lathe, mill, CNC, sheet metal fab, and 3D printing
  • Experience in adjacent fields is a plus: structural engineering, industrial sensors and controls, electrostatics, high voltage, daq and analysis
  • Power plant, utilities, or electrostatic precipitator experience is a plus
