Point source and direct air carbon capture systems use specialty chemicals that absorb CO2 from the surrounding air. These chemicals are sprayed into small droplets to maximize surface area, and a fraction of those droplets drifts out of the system causing pollution and equipment damage. Permitting
Droplet emissions in the form of drift are tightly controlled by air permits. The reason is that the chemicals in these droplets are toxic and corrosive and can cause extensive damage to nearby ecosystems and machinery if they spread.
